I’m soooo excited about this post! Remember that trip to Nashville I took a couple of weeks ago?! Well, it was nothing short of incredible! Not only did I spend time with family and see friends…but on that Friday, I had the pleasure of co-hosting the launch of Kjaer Weis‘ line at Nashville’s green beauty shop Lemon Laine. Laura Lemon, the lovely owner of Lemon Laine and I dreamed up this event for the past few months and it was incredible seeing it all come together! Thanks to Kjaer Weis and their gorgeous organic, clean makeup line, I was able to do two beautiful makeup looks on a model (the beautiful Jessica) – transitioning a day makeup look to a night look. The ever-so-loved (and gorgeous, might I add) Cafe Roze catered some delicious little bites and we had some tasty wine by Tavola Wine. The invited guests weren’t left empty handed, they each received curated Kjaer Weis goodie bags and were offered a divine Elements Truffles chocolate bar. (You’ve GOT to try these chocolates if you haven’t! They’re Ayurveda inspired, sweetened with honey, incredibly beautiful and so decadent!) Seriously, this event was beyond what I could have even imagined. Thank you to everyone for coming out! Can’t wait to host more like these in the near future!
I’ll be honest here;Rituel de Fille completely caught me off guard. Dark, gothy vibes…gorgeous deep, rich palettes – eyeshadows and lipsticks alike. I was sure they were off the market for me – then I found out they’re completely natural! This company is truly breaking barriers in the clean/green beauty community.
Looking for luxurious, beautifully packaged, quality organic skincare and perfume? Better yet, an inspirational woman to follow and admire? Lina Hansonis your girl! Lina, as a traveling celebrity makeup artist, has worked with people of all skin types and skin issues. The importance of beautiful skin to her is sacred. Achieving that perfect complexion is what we all strive for…but we aren’t going to achieve it by solely buying luxurious creams and procedures to achieve it – the conventional way is filled with dangerous toxins that harm the skin.
So Lina set out to create effective, chemical-free alternatives to harsh skin care products that are made with pure and natural ingredients derived from the earth. These products help promote a glowing complexion for everyone, no matter the age, ethnicity or skin-type. She believes they help your skin get the nutrients it needs to look its best. That being said, it is Lina’s goal to source the most pure, anti-aging essential oils in the world! She’s collected oils from countries like Morocco, South Africa, India, Tunisia, Japanand Peruto discover that these ingredients have been used and cherished by people for centuries. Lina mentioned that it can be puzzling at times to think about why we use toxic beauty products which are mass-produced in big factories…when the ones derived from earth have helped heal people since the beginning of time. I agree, Lina. I agree!
So by now we all know that I cannot get enough makeup in my life. I mean, I just love it. From lipsticks, to eyeshadows, foundations, concealers, blush and more…I think it’s so fun! And as a makeup artist, a green beauty blogger and makeup fanatic, it’s always exciting to discover new green cosmetic companies! Ones really striving to create safer, green makeup that works just as great as the conventional brands.
I’m aware, I’m aware…I’ve been gone for FOREVER. Like, really, forever…it’s been way too long. BUT, in the process of this little M.I.A ordeal (not the singer, the acronym), I have had time to really plan on where I’ve been wanting this blog to go to next. Next? Like, i.e.:
See, that’s what I’ve been struggling with! CONTENT. Content that I actually feel excited to post about, excited to share and talk about! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE MUSIC (duh..it’s muh life). However, I also love beauty. Cosmetics. Skincare. Pharmaceuticals. Makeup reviews. Makeup tips…etc, etc. I have a passion for it. It’s kinda outta control sometimes….but hey, that’s what passion is right? Errr…right.
As you all know (or may know), I am a freelance makeup artist (weddings, fun styled shoots etc). So, makeup is something I actually do on occasion. I love it! It’s a chance for me to use my artistic talents, think outside of the box, play around, relax (it’s therapeutic for me) and have fun. If there is one thing any of my friends or family would tell you about me, it’d be that I am a walking mini store (and possibly even encyclopedia) for makeup, lipsticks, and other beauty products. I constantly have swatches on my hand or arm, two or more lipsticks in my purse – actually, I think at one point I may have had like a whole mini case FULL of lipsticks and glosses (11 to be exact). I love giving advice on how to apply makeup, what to wear…what not to wear, what’s healthy for your skin, what isn’t so healthy and so on. Again, like I said, PASSION. It’s real.
(Just me being artsy..don’t worry about it.)
So, alas, here we are. Where are you going with this Sammie, you may ask? Exactly where I want to. This blog will be filled with beauty items, reviews, photos of #whatsinmypurse, #makeuptipswithsammie, occasional giveaways, tips on what to look for when purchasing makeup, tips on how to save money while doing so, luxury items, quality items, organic and holistic care (cus LAWD knows I love me some of that) and THEN – BAM – your classic A Musical Mind playlist of sorts to go along with the mood of the day/week/month! Or, just my faves at the moment. Implementing the two things I love and am passionate about: makeup and music. What could be better? Makeup, music and unending sushi? Duh. Okay, okay, but really. Hope you all like what’s comin’ for ya! I’m excited. Stay tuned, kids. The best is yet to come!
P.s. Speaking of music…here’s one of my favourite songs at the moment! A rad band from Bristol, England by the name of Meadowlark. Good stuff, good stuff!
Shadow: I did a soft winged eyeliner, (mix of black liquid liner and brown pencil smudged out a bit, on the bottom lash line as well) with a couple of different brown/neutral shimmery eyeshadows on the lids. I tight-lined with a black eye pencil, and lined the waterline with the same brown pencil used on upper and lower lash line.
In the tear ducts and below the waterline along the brown pencil, I put a Japanese gel – intensely silvery/glittery – liner. I can’t remember the brand. I also put a bit of The Balm Mary Lou Manizer in the tear ducts to brighten it even more.
Cheeks: Lightly contoured with MacHarmony (in their blushes). On apples of cheeks, I applied Mac’s Modern Mandarin to create a rosy, flush cheek.
Highlight: The BalmMary Lou Manizer on bridge and ball of nose, cheekbones, lightly on the temples and cupids bow (above the lip line). I also applied some of the highlighter to the highest point of her eyelid to bounce off light and glow even more.
