I’m soooo excited about this post! Remember that trip to Nashville I took a couple of weeks ago?! Well, it was nothing short of incredible! Not only did I spend time with family and see friends…but on that Friday, I had the pleasure of co-hosting the launch of Kjaer Weis‘ line at Nashville’s green beauty shop Lemon Laine. Laura Lemon, the lovely owner of Lemon Laine and I dreamed up this event for the past few months and it was incredible seeing it all come together! Thanks to Kjaer Weis and their gorgeous organic, clean makeup line, I was able to do two beautiful makeup looks on a model (the beautiful Jessica) – transitioning a day makeup look to a night look. The ever-so-loved (and gorgeous, might I add) Cafe Roze catered some delicious little bites and we had some tasty wine by Tavola Wine. The invited guests weren’t left empty handed, they each received curated Kjaer Weis goodie bags and were offered a divine Elements Truffles chocolate bar. (You’ve GOT to try these chocolates if you haven’t! They’re Ayurveda inspired, sweetened with honey, incredibly beautiful and so decadent!) Seriously, this event was beyond what I could have even imagined. Thank you to everyone for coming out! Can’t wait to host more like these in the near future!
These Water Systems and Alkaline Water Filtration Pitcheres reduce chlorine: taste and odour, heavy metals (not the musical kind…lolol), industrial chemicals and contaminants. Plus it remineralizes your water with important minerals like calcium and magnesium to create alkaline, pH balanced water with high anti-oxidant potential.
Santevia not only makes On-The-Go products, but they also offer Counter Top Dispensers, and my personal favourite: the Alkaline Water Pitcher! This pitcher holds over two litres of water at a time and the filters last for two months! It even has a digital display, counting down the days to when your filter needs to be replaced – and Lord knows I always forget stuff like that!
At just $59.99, for the pitcher and $15.99 for a replacement filter, it’s an awesome way to get clean, nourishing water without breaking the bank! If that isn’t enough goodness for ya, Santevia donates 10% of their profits to help people around the world! Including two orphanages in Thailand, a school in Bangladesh, water projects in Africa and Haiti and more! So, so great.
If you’ve made it this far…I’ve got some great news! Santevia will be holding a 15% off Pitchers online special starting this Thursday (September 24-27)! Head on over there starting Thursday so you can get in on the deal! ?
I love supporting small businesses, especially when they promote healthy living, cosmetics and skincare – and this one is no exception!
Helmer Homemade is a small Pennsylvania business owned and run by the sweet Kylie Helmer. Everything she creates is made with love, the purest ingredients, and sometimes even little helping hands – as she has two kiddies. She strives everyday to create a more natural lifestyle for her family, which I wholeheartedly support! Everything in the shop is completely natural and vegan; as Kylie chooses to use candelilla wax instead of beeswax.
So, that being said, here are the cute little chapsticks she sent over to me!
Helmer Homemadechapstick is created with the purest, most natural ingredients. The chapsticks are tinted naturally with Organic Beet Root Powder and are super soothing + moisturizing too. Due to the homemade nature, her products may differ slightly from batch to batch, but that’s the beauty in it!
L: Minty Fresh + R: Cutie Fruity
Here are a few of the chapsticks offered and their scent description:
Cutie Fruity: a funky citrus blend that will wake you up & make you feel like you’re on a tropical island. Hello Mellow: a relaxing scent; bye-bye stress! Minty Fresh: smells even better than a candy-cane, this pure peppermint flavored chapstick is refreshing + energizing.
Ingredients: coconut oil, cocoa butter, candelilla wax, beet root powder, essential oils
* Due to the homemade nature, my products might differ slightly from batch to batch. Thank you for understanding and supporting a Mama who just loves to create all-natural products for her family (and yours!)

This look is super easy, and always complimenting of all skin tones.
Step 1: Moisturize + Prime
I’m pretty combination so I like to focus on keeping my t-zone fairly free of moisturizer unless it is a mattefying one. Ursa Major’s Face Balm is my favourite right now, with the highest quality ingredients, a little goes a long way! I especially love how light it feels on my skin, refreshing and cool – plus it mattifies my face wonderfully. If I am more dry, I’ll use One Love Organic’s Vitamin C Facial Serum – my favourite! Brightening and moisturizing and so, so good for your skin! Primer is not always something I apply, if I’m going for a lighter, fresher look, I typically skip it. But, if I want a more flawless, concealed look – it does wonders at keeping makeup put and on for awhile! Do what is most comfortable and what suits your skin type best.
Step 2: Brows
Fill in your brows, if you feel that they are sparse in some areas. I love using a brow wax/pomade, EcoBrow in Rita, in particular. It’s like Anastasia’s DipBrow Pomade, but free of all of the parabens and other chemicals. If you’ve got a great set of brows, then girl…rock it. (Also, I may be jealous!)
Step 3: Mascara
I like quite a lashy look for this bright-eyed effect we’re going for! The lashier, the better. Oh, and curling my lashes is KEY for me – such a game changer. But, again, it’s what you feel comfortable with. My go-to mascara right now, and probably favourite mascara ever is the 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mascara in Black Tea. Ladies…it not only does an amazing job at lift and curl, but it holds well AND smells sweet (like fruits, haha)!
Step 4: Conceal
This isn’t super necessary unless, like me, you’ve got some blue/purply under eye bags..or any little spots you want to hide. For me, concealing is important. It not only brightens up this look (any look, really), it keeps the canvas clean and fresh. RMS’ “Un” Cover-Up is killer for achieving a great conceal – and it doubles as a foundation too (warms up and literally melts onto your skin)!
Step 5: Blush
You want a natural flush, glowy, rosy cheek kind of situation to be happening here…so, pick your favourite ‘cheeky’ shade and apply on the apples of your cheeks. Alima Pure’s Satin Matte Blush in Mimosa is my favourite for achieving that ‘blushing from within’ look.
Step 6: Highlight
Again, not necessary, but I love me a good highlight! It gives you a soft, radiant, glowy look – and who wouldn’t want that? I know I do! I used the ever so loved bareMinerals Flawless Radiance for this look.
Step 6: Lips
Lip balm, lip tint, lipstick…how about all three of them in one? I’m obsessed with Kjaer Weis’ Lip Tint in Romance– a vibrant reddish pink tone (almost coral) that gives you that pop of colour you want for this bright, fun look!
And that’s all, folks! Have fun with this look, there is no “right” or “wrong” way to rock it. If you feel confident and happy, do it up!
Hope you’re having a great night. Here’s a little tune I’m digging right now by the band Unknown Mortal Orchestra – I hope you like! Thanks for dropping by and I’ll see you soon. Xo
This song has easily become an on-repeat tune. There’s just something about it that I can’t seem to shake off – and I mean that in a positive connotation. This down-tempo, almost eery track is drenched in moodiness with its breathy, whispering vocals. The track is full of psychedelic guitar tones, and plenty of sexy-pop goodness…when it’s on, I’m constantly swaying to it. I cannot get enough.
This Atlanta based band, Mood Rings, sure knows how to create some delicious sounds. The whole album is a treat to the ears. Not just this video, or song – the whole dang thing. So, check ’em out!
Happy New Year! Welcome to the start of what I hope will be a fun, knowledgable and music-filled blog.
“Sammie, why now?” For quite a long time I’ve had one ‘blog’ – it’s a Tumblr – which wasn’t really specific to much except re-blogs of stuff I liked. That’s all cool and whatnot, but I was consistently being asked to share my music choices, top artists, bands, etc. Whenever I’d have music playing, I’d text a friend, or my sister (we share music 24/7) to check out whoever I was listening to. I’d tell them my favourite track off the album, their genre, who they resembled, and so on and so forth. I’d go over to a friends house and ask them if they had heard of this band “____” and when they responded no, I’d immediately want to fill them in. It seriously is about dang time I do this.
“Why a solely a music-focused blog?”
I want to reach a similar demographic of people that want to discover, educate, listen to, and thoroughly enjoy music. I personally, cannot live without it. Even as I sit here typing, I have music playing in the background. It fuels me, gets my creative juices flowing and even helps me focus. (Back in my school-days, I could never get homework done without it.)
“What should I expect?” That’s a good question. A journey you’ll be embarking on with me. I am chalk-full of ideas, words, photos…and yes, duh, music! My goal is to post at least three times a week. That may look like a post about my favourite artist that week, in addition with a playlist. Or, it may just be a cool music video, or some album artwork I find truly inspiring, or plain cool. Like I said, it’ll be a journey; one I hope you’ll want to stick around for.
“Can you explain your “Shows” category more in depth?” “Shows” is a little something special for you. Prior to me moving to Charlotte, NC, I lived in Nashville for almost 5 years. “Music-city” and let me tell you, it’s everything and more you think it is. Constantly surrounded by it, it was so great! I also grew up in a musical family, playing, singing..typically at a show, concert, or musical event quite often. So, this category is for you show-thirsty folk. I will try and post my favourite (or remotely likable) bands/artists that are playing in the Charlotte, NC or surrounding areas. Sound cool? I hope so.
“Interviews? As in, band interviews?“ Yep. This will be a new venture for me, as I have never actually “interviewed” a band or artist before. I have a lot of talented, musician friends. Some who are in bands, some who tech for them, some who manage them… I will do my best to get any information, critique, public response – other than my own – relating to that specific album, tour or overall band/artist to the best of my ability!
“Okay, okay. So, this is leaving us expecting a lot. Will you come through?” I promise, I will try my absolute best! I mean, we all know, as human beings we have real life going on. Real work schedules, school, family, friends to hang with, things to do. However, I love music, and I love to share about it. So, hopefully it won’t be a hassle for me. But hey, life is life. Be easy on a gal.
Thanks for reading this lengthy intro! Hope to see you back real soon!
