Top Green Skincare Products

I’ll be real, for the longest time, I was a makeup girl. Skincare always came second for me…until one day, (quite some time ago) I realized that skincare was essential for healthy, beautiful glowing skin. The canvas to express my makeup looks on…it had to be prepped right, and with the best of the best ingredients!

So, with that being said, I wanted to share my top green skincare products! I’ve broken them down into categories, starting with my first routine – cleansing, and then the rest of the products consecutively follow! Keep in mind, these are what I use right now, on a daily/nightly basis and pretty much the ones I couldn’t live without.

CLEANSERS

Fitglow Beauty Calm Cleansing Milk has been such a gift to my sensitive skin. I am incredibly thankful for Anna, the founder, and creator of Fitglow Beauty, for always being so genuine and open about her sensitive skin. We both have had some great conversations and relate to one another in a lot of ways. (She’s Canadian too…so that’s a big one! Haha.) I have always had some sort of redness, inflammation, and at times, dry skin (thanks to combination skin). This stuff is incredibly gentle – exactly what I think of when a “cleansing milk” is involved. Soothing and moisturizing; this creamy cleanser gently lathers on my face to remove makeup and impurities without stripping or irritating my face. It smells light and fresh, not at all overpowering! It contains soothing ingredients such as organic cucumber and aloe juice, which calm and replenishes moisture while leaving my face clean and refreshed. I also love using this as a spot makeup remover, and yep, it’s gentle on the eyes! WIN/WIN!

Max and Me Purity & Grace Oil Cleanser I’m convinced, is a company from the angels. No, really, have you checked out Max and Me yet? You’re in for a treat. Enchanting, magical, pure, wild-crafted goodness, and the creators are some of the sweetest souls. But let’s get to this oil cleanser. Max and Me state that this product is:

“Gorgeously effective for all skin types and beautifully clearing for troubled complexions. Reveals your beauty in its purest, brightest form.”

They do not lie. Luscious cleansing oil that removes the pollutants of the day, enhances circulation, melts away impurities, makeup, and environmental debris. I immediately loved the scent of Purity & Grace. Its blend of essential oils was composed to deeply and gently cleanse and clear, enhancing my blood flow and microcirculation. The gentle, essential oil blend is a concoction of cleansing, harmonizing lavender, anti-inflammatory neroli, and hyssop, purifying atlas cedar – which activates your lymph fluid and blood circulation, as does mountain juniper. My skin glows – calm, detoxified, and balanced – from the restoring and healing properties this oil cleanser brings. Can you tell I’m entranced by it?

LeahLani Skincare Honey Love 3-in-1 is one of the first products I tried from the OG LeahLani Skincare back in the day! I immediately fell in love with it (as I have all of Leah’s skincare line). You can actually read some of my thoughts on this little review I did almost 2 years ago! There’s much to say about this product! It’s labeled 3-in-1 because of its three wonderful uses: cleanser, exfoliator, and mask. After I use this baby, my skin feels softer, my skin-tone even and cleared of congestion and I’m even having fewer breakouts! HELLO. Oh, and it literally smells like the most wonderful, tropical, honey/fruit concoction you’ve ever laid your nostrils upon. Leah states that this mask will:

“..clarify, oxygenate, hydrate and balance the skin while stimulating cellular renewal.”

And so it does, quite beautifully.

MASKS

Josh Rosebrook Cacao Antioxidant Mask* is one of my favourite masks. It makes my skin feel like a million bucks – with it on, and with it off! Containing herbal infusions of Lavender Flowers, Ginkgo Leaf, Alfalfa, Bilberry, Neem Leaf,  Comfrey, Marshmallow Root..just to name a few. Boy, was I wrong when I thought it’d smell like chocolate! What with a name like Cacao Antioxidant Mask and all…but it actually has a more herbal scent, which makes sense! Results with this mask were basically instant. It definitely delivered brighter, firmer, and, over time, clearer skin. Another great thing it does is it restores your skin’s natural healing ability. Give me all the healing! (Seriously.) So where does the organic cacao come in? The cacao helps stimulate blood flow and deliver active nutrients to your cells. It’s detoxifying, brightening, anti-inflammatory, and overall wonderful! I mean, who’d ever expect less of cacao? ;)

Josh Rosebrook Active Enzyme Exfoliator* is another one of Josh’s creations that I simply cannot rave enough about! It’s truly transforming my skin. I’ve always had issues with dry patches and clogged pores, this stuff demolishes those issues. We all know that exfoliating is a must for a radiant-looking skin. It sloughs off older skin cells, revealing newer (happier) cells. If you didn’t do this, the dead skin cells wouldn’t hold quite as much moisture with your toners, oils, and serums. So, you definitely want to be exfoliating! The initial scent of this product is herbal-like. It has notes of chamomile, neem, and some citrus scents – all ingredients present in this product (and more)!  What I adore about this exfoliating product is that I can control the intensity of it. I can either deeply exfoliate by massaging the product into my skin and letting it sit for 30 minutes to an hour, or I can give myself a gentle exfoliation by smoothing it over my face and massaging it gently in. Either way, the active fruit enzymes in this product will exfoliate my dead skin cells no matter how I go about the process!

LeahLani Skincare Honey Love 3-in-1 (see full description above in CLEANSERS)

May Lindstrom Skin The Honey Mud (currently reformulating for Summer 2021)…oh my goodness this product is decadence in a jar! May‘s products are really special, in more ways than one! This Honey Mud Masque is no exception! Every ingredient involved is earth-loving and natural. A luxurious concoction of pre-mixed honey, oil, and clay – but not just any honey, oil, and clay – Raw Honey, White Halloysite Clay, Organic Macadamia Nut Oil to name the first few ingredients. Yes, it definitely smells good enough to eat and looks like it too! (Think vanilla-honey/chocolate-orange.) I apply this masque when my skin is feeling parched and tight, sometimes I even use it as a gentle cleanser. As a masque, I leave it on for 15-30 minutes or longer (I’ve worn this almost a half-day before) and rinse it off to reveal the silkiest, most pillowy soft skin. It truly takes the art of masquing to another level – a spa-at-home level. So lovely!

TONERS, HYDROLATS, TONICS + MISTS

Khus+Khus Detox Hydrolat has easily become a nightly skin-ritual fave! My skin, as I’ve mentioned before, is sensitive/combo. The Detox Hydrolat is meant for those that have issues with acne, oily, inflamed, redness, sensitivity, congestion, maturity, eczema, thread veins. It also is an omnipotent anti-wrinkle treatment and plumps cells while purifying the skin! I definitely struggle with inflammation, redness, sensitive skin, and even some eczema. So, I was thrilled whenever I started using this and noticed awesome results! With ingredients like french violet, patchouli, white grapefruit, rock rose, witch hazel, and rock rose floral water…this product not only smells pleasant, but it works on clearing, decongesting, refining, purifying, and caring for my skin.

LeahLani Skincare Citrus + Citrine Regenerating Toner is as lovely as it sounds! This toner is best suited for acne-prone, oily and mature skin and helps hydrate and purify your complexion. Leahlani‘s products are seriously amongst some of my favourite skincare products! I adore the scent of this toner, and I love using it in the morning to really energize my skin (and spirit) before the day starts! This product, like all of Leah‘s products, is special because she handpicks a selection of botanical ingredients that work harmoniously to liven, hydrate, energize and illuminate your skin..and yes, spirit! With the most gentle, healing ingredients such as Pure Hawaiian spring water infused with organic aloe, and a blend of brightening essential oils like neroli, orange, and mandarin…your skin will be radiant, even, and incredibly happy! Then there’s the sugar cane and sugar maple (yes, you read right!) to help promote a smooth complexion by increasing skin cell renewal. Does it get any better than that?!

True Botanicals Nutrient Mist CALM does exactly that; calms my skin with reparative ingredients and potent anti-inflammatories. I love using this morning, throughout the day and/or night-time! I shake it up beforehand and then spritz it onto my face, neck, and chest. It’s incredible at soothing and hydrating my sensitive, sometimes inflamed skin. So, what sets apart this facial mist from others? It has powerful, organic ingredients that truly transform the skin. Blue Chamomile, Algae Oil, and Avena Oat Extract to name just a few. These ingredients help with a wide range of things including anti-inflammation, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, repairing cells, replenishing lipid function of the skin, and doing what this mist does best – soothing and calming your skin.

Mel Millis Phytonutri Skincare Rose Hydrolate Mist Tonic* is another calming and soothing facial tonic. This product stimulates cell regeneration and soothes redness caused by irritation. It also aids the skin in flushing out toxins and allowing cells to better absorb nutrients and hydration by balancing the skin’s pH levels. It’s somewhat anti-aging as well, as it also plumps and smoothes fine lines while brightening dull and tired skin. I adore the scent of this Mist! It’s a go-to throughout the day, as it is fresh and soothing. The main organic ingredient in this product is the pure hydrolate (floral water) of a rose. This ingredient is extracted during the distillation process of the precious essential oil and carries a light, sweet floral scent, with deep woody undertones.

Khus+Khus Detox Face Serum has LITERALLY changed my face for the better. I don’t know exactly why my skin loves this so much – I mean, its powerful ingredients of French violet, patchouli, white grapefruit, rock rose, jojoba, watermelon seed oil, and tamanu are probably enough – but I’m guessing that it’s also the fact that with these said ingredients, this product is literally detoxing my skin. It’s targeted toward any eczema, oily, inflamed, red, congested, mature, sensitive, and/or acne-prone skin. This serum is completely NON­-GMO certified, contains organic + sustainably wild harvested ingredients, and works like a miracle! Especially in conjunction with its partner, the Detox Hydrolat. I’ve been spritzing some of the Hydrolat in my hand, then putting 2-3 drops of the serum in my hand and mixing it together. The result is a lighter face serum, perfect for the daytime! But honestly, even on its own, it’s amazing for the day or night. LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff! Highly recommend it!

Maya Chia The Super Couple Astaxanthin + Chia Ultra Luxe Face Oil! It’s a mouthful, isn’t it? Haha! Maya Chia really hit this one out of the ballpark and with a label like “Ultra Luxe Face Oil”, who couldn’t help be intrigued? First off, when you’re named one of the best face oils for glowing skin by The Zoe Report, chosen as one of the “top 10 Face Oils” & “One of the 100 Healthiest Beauty product for your skin” by Spirituality and Health Magazine Summer 2016 AND THEN named one of the best new products of the year by Well+Good, you know this product has got it goin’ on! The Super Couple works as a multi-correctional high-performance ultra luxe face oil serum by combining astaxanthin (try saying that 10 times quickly..) with nature’s numero uno superfood, chia to create a powerful anti-aging, brightening, and overall gorgeous skin. Omega fatty acids, antioxidants, and minerals fight to diminish the appearance of dull, tired, and aging skin. I mean, sign me up! This oil smells beautiful and light, plus its lightweight formula quickly absorbs into my skin. I place about 4 drops into my hand and then apply them onto my face and neck. (Can be used morning or night.) It’s gentle, yet powerful and can even be used on the most sensitive of skin types. (Thank goodness!)

Laurel Whole Plant Organics Anti-Inflammatory Facial Serum (Currently called The Unburden Serum) is hands down one of my favourite Laurel products. Especially with my easily inflamed and sensitive skin – which it’s totally meant for skin-types like mine – the Anti-inflammatory Serum soothes, calms, and restores my skin. If I’m just a little bit red around my jawline, or nose, I gently pat it on those areas. It works wonders for dry skin too, and it has plant ingredients in it that have been linked to sun-protection such as Red Raspberry Seed, Cranberry Seed, and Jojoba. Some of the other amazing ingredients used to reduce inflammation, soothe, prevent wrinkles, scarring, and help regenerate cells are Borage, Blue Chamomile, Baicall Skullcap, Helichrysum, and Lemon Balm. You guessed it, it smells lovely and feels even lovelier.

Lauren Whole Plant Organics Blemish Treatment. A staple for my nighttime regimen! When I’m having a hormonal breakout (ugh) or a spot here and there, this product immediately brings relief and minimizes the look of the spot or area of breakout! It works at effectively healing and treating it, by reducing stress! All the plants in this product were mindfully and carefully chosen to address inflammation, create a  healthy flora/microbe balance, and prevent scarring. Beautiful, right? Well, they’re all-powerful too! This medicinal Blemish Treatment starts off with two base oils of Black Cumin and Tamanu – two oils historically and clinically used for their treatment of acne and inflammation – both with zero tolerance for an imbalanced microbiome. Let me explain: these oils in this treatment not only physically stop breakouts in their tracks, (like Thyme which has been proven to be more effective at treating acne than Benzoyl Peroxide without harming healthy skin flora), but also aromatically reduce stress levels and encourage the pituitary gland to balance hormone states throughout the body. This product (similar to The Super Couple) has a multi-action proprietary formula that includes wildcrafted plant actives each highly targeted to work together to impart a specific benefit to bring vitality to your skin’s appearance!  It will increase your skin firmness and resiliency, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, brighten the appearance of skin. I love using this Serum after cleansing my skin at night – although it is light enough to be used during the day for a moisture boost. I put a small, pea-sized amount of the pressed serum onto my face and neck. I love massaging serums in, as it sort of lulls me and calms me down before bed. It sinks in immediately on contact and feels amazing. You can absolutely layer with a serum, but it’s not mandatory, as this blend is powerful on its own.

Kypris Beauty Antioxidant Dew* isn’t just a beautiful blue bottle…this product literally restores vitality to my skin. Seriously, it’s a game-changer for those of you who don’t like heavy oils or creams. It really works too! Whenever I use it, I not only feel instant hydration, but it imparts this gorgeous, dewy glow. It also soothes my sensitive, imbalanced, and sometimes stressed skin with ingredients like rose and reed extracts. The consistency of this moisturizer is light, creamy (almost milky), and has a serum-like texture. Perfect for the daytime, under makeup! (It’s a dreeeeam under my foundation!) My skin drinks in this moisturizer, happily!

Consonant Skincare Ultra Firming Organic Eye Cream* is formulated to improve fine lines and wrinkles and eliminate dark circles. It’s 100% natural, with amazing organic ingredients such as Ginseng, Chamomile Extract, Aloe, Echinacea, Cucumber, and Rosemary, to name a few. What I love most about this eye cream is it isn’t heavy. It doesn’t feel clogging or lay thick on my thin, delicate under-eye area or anywhere else around my eye area. I gently pat 1/2 a pump around each of my eyes, applying it from my lash line up to my brow bone and from my lower lash line out to my temple. It’s lightweight, the scent is virtually undetectable and it actually feels cool. Such a great product!

Fitglow Beauty Redness Rescue Cream (RRC) is a literal rescuer. First of all, it’s created with a natural green mineral tint that immediately reduces the appearance of any redness. Remember, green counteracts red. ;) It contains awesome organic ingredients like organic grapeseed oil which hydrates without greasiness, organic comfrey, calendula, and chamomile all of which naturally calm stressed and irritated skin, plus stimulate cell growth. Do you see a trending topic? Cell growth is imperative for radiant, healthy skin! I apply this cream on no-makeup, makeup days, or on days where I’m a bit more red than usual. It sits beautifully under makeup and is wonderful before bed too!
