OSEA Malibu | Skincare Review

You’ve heard about them, you’ve seen them sitting pretty on Instagram, and now…you’re about to get the lowdown on OSEA Malibu – Vegan Skincare from the Sea.

This company was not a stranger to me, as my sister Jordana had previously posted about them. She also uses them on a daily basis. With only great things to say, it got me a bit curious as to what was so special about these skincare products. I mean, yes, vegan, non-toxic…yes, natural…but there are a lot of those on the market nowadays, what truly makes OSEA stand apart from the rest? Well, this left me with only one option: testing them out for myself!

Ironically, OSEA contacted me not too long after I had made my decision to want to try their products and was so kind as to send me some to try out and review. Here are my honest opinions and thoughts.

Let’s start with my absolutely favourite, shall we? The Ocean Cleansing Mudd. I typically use this cleanser in the morning, right after I brush my teeth. This cleanser gets rid of any impurities, clears blemishes, and controls excess sebum production – which definitely happens while sleeping. The base of this cleanser is a blend of seaweeds that are highly concentrated in minerals, trace elements, amino acids, and vitamins that serve to remove dead cells and and purify clogged pores.

I won’t lie, it looks kind of like a chocolate-coffee drink in that yummy looking frosted glass bottle (yay glass, FTW)…and it smells lovely! Some of its amazing, beneficial ingredients: Macrocystis, Laminaria and Fucus are mineral-rich seaweeds with trace elements that smooth and hydrate the skin. Natural fruit acids exfoliate and deliver nutrition to the pores, improving your skin tone and overall brightness. There’s also Peppermint Oil (which lends to its lovely scent, and tingly, refreshing feeling on the skin) and some anti-bacterial Tea Tree Oil, which helps to deeply purify and promote a healthy pH balance. Not to mention, prevents blemishes, and enhances skin’s appearance! I told you this stuff is awesome! It’s hands down my favourite product sent to me!

Blemish Balm. This is a light, non-greasy moisturizer (yes, please), that actively heals blemishes and gently hydrates without clogging pores. OSEA claims it as a natural alternative to harsh retinols and synthetic chemicals. Blemish Balm reduces inflammation, prevents breakouts and is perfect for skin that can’t tolerate heavy moisturizers – aka yours truly!

This product has a powerful blend of natural ingredients in it. It contains OSEA’s proprietary trio of organic seaweeds and a healing blend of Cypress, Juniper, and Rosemary essential oils, These oils are known for their antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. This moisturizer is so lightweight, your skin will easily absorb all of its goodness – plus it can even be used under makeup. WIN!

Red Algae Mask. This little red mask is pretty great, however, I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re super sensitive. I am pretty sensitive and it does just fine on my skin for a certain amount of time, but then does get kind of warm on my face – not the good, mask-warm…more like the irritated a bit, warm. So, just be cautious if you’re very sensitive! I sometimes even just apply it as a spot treatment.

Overall, this is a great product! This mask reduces the appearance of fine lines, imperfections, and broken capillaries, all while stimulating circulation. It’s rich in minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and fortified with a variety of antioxidants and enzymes, AND the concentrated formula will totally heal your breakouts and purify your pores. Scared it’ll dry you out? Unlike traditional clay-based masks that have a drying effect, this treatment supports and balances your skin’s natural moisture barrier – awesome!

Essential Corrective Complex. An oil, targeted toward oily, combo and acneic skin, with a blend of botanical and essential oils. This isn’t your typical ‘drying’ acne treatment you guys.. this oil rapidly heals blemishes, regulates and calms sebaceous glands and prevents scarring.

It contains amazing ingredients such as: Tea Tree, White Thyme and Juniper which all have powerful natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It’s also anti-fungal, and its antiseptic complex effectively treats blemishes, cold sores, insect bites and even ingrown hairs.

Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got the Ocean Cleansing Milk. Perfect for sensitive skin like mine (also great for dry, rosacea skin types), this Cleansing Milk is divine. I like to use it morning, or night – and it can be used daily, no problem. This milky cleanser contains ingredients such as Water Lily extract, organic seaweed from Patagonia and more! It’s basically loaded with nature’s best skin soothers. It’s so gentle and so effective that it will calm my redness and inflammation on contact!

Some of the other ingredients included in this cleanser are DPHP and organic algae; these increase elasticity, boost collagen production and ensure long-lasting hydration. DPHP has been shown to stimulate the synthesis of collagen fibers and inhibit free radicals, improving the appearance of wrinkles and reducing signs of aging. Organic seaweed from Patagonia replaces lost moisture and can heal sun-damaged skin. Water Lilly extract reduces redness and inflammation. What a team, right? With all of these put together, along with other minerals and extracts, you’re getting a nice, deep cleanse all while hydrating and restoring. It’ll leave your skin looking and feeling rejuvenated with a soft glow, and it’s fragrance-free and pH balanced. :)
