So pumped for today’s featured Interview! My good pal from Nashville, Julian Dente recently started up his own solo musical project called YØUTH and it is truly amazing! I have had the privilege of knowing Julian for about 4 years now and the kid is seriously talented! Had the chance to reconnect with him – since my move from Nashville to Charlotte – and ask him a few questions about this awesome new project he’s taken on. Here’s the exclusive interview, enjoy!
Where are you from?
Nashville, TN born/raised.
How long have you been playing music?
My first memory of playing music is in the back of a tour bus with an acoustic guitar when I was 7 years old, I’m 22 now so I guess 15 years. Wow.
How did you form YØUTH and how long has it been?
I originally was playing music just as Julian Dente, released an EP in 2012 and did a few east coast tours with my good friend Jesse Denaro in 2013. This year I decided I wanted to set myself apart from the singer-songwriter scene and brand myself in a new way. So it’s really only been a few months!
What’s your driving force?
Connection. Music has helped me through so much anxiety and confusion, knowing people my age and older were struggling with the same things and understood. I want to convey the brokenness we all feel, and the hope/redemption that’s available to everyone.
Who are your main influences?
My parents for sure. Both of them are Berklee grads and had/have a very successful career in music. They’ve always been completely supportive and encouraging of everything I want to do, I don’t know where I’d be without them.
What do you think sets you apart from any other artist or band?
Probably the main thing is that I play all the instruments on all of my recordings.
How do you shut yourself off and focus to rehearse or record?
I usually just sit on my back porch with an acoustic guitar and record voice memos of ideas until my phone dies.
How did your name “YØUTH” come about?
My name (Julian) means “Youthful” so I just took that and rolled with it.
So, for those readers who haven’t heard your stuff yet, what can they expect from the tracks you put out?
Songs about the confusion of growing up, hope in something bigger than me, and a lot of breakup songs.
How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
My website is http://youthmusic.us, and my new single is currently on http://soundcloud.com/youth615 and is free to download when you Like my Facebook page! Also feel free to follow me on Instagram and Twitter: @Youth_TN
Anything else you want to add?
