HAPPY NEW YEAR! Playlist No. 42

GUYS! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Holy whirlwind of life…I have been non-stop. Not to mention, January 1st was A Musical Mind‘s ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY!? Wow. Amazing. I can’t begin to thank everyone for tuning in, and staying super dedicated to following me and my crazy musical journey. Discovering new bands, music, shows, and more…It means the world, and I am so grateful to you all! I definitely am guilty of not posting a whole bunch anymore, and having all the reasons why…but ya know, whatever. It happens – and hey, I’m here now! ;)

 

So, let’s get right into today’s playlist! I’ve been recently obsessed with this Seattle/NY-based band: M∆DE IN HEIGHTS! Their dreamy, euphoric r&b-pop is melodic, enchanting, and just plain mesmerizing. I can’t seem to get enough.

 

 

Some songs, you can listen to passively and completely forget about them…there are some that resonate with you, but only for a couple of minutes or so, after which they seem to disappear into the atmosphere. Then, there are songs that resonate through your whole body and when they end you dissolve with it. M∆DE IN HEIGHTS does exactly this to me, and hopefully to you too.

 

These tracks hit you. They captivate you. In the perfect moment, with the perfect emotion tagging along. This track, “Skylark Interabang?!, is one of those tracks.

 

Kelsey Bulkin‘s ethereal vocals float over Sufjan Stevens’ beautiful sample of “Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois”. The track starts off simply with the Sufjan sample. Not only is this one of my favourite Sufjan songs, but with Bulkin’s soft, dreamy vocals…their sounds just melt together in an angelic, delicious concoction.
