A matte lipstick that’s organic?! I know, FINALLY, right?! I’ve had a handful of ladies ask me about a matte lipstick that contains safe ingredients, and preforms. In the green beauty world, there are few and far between. But, alas, here we have them! 100% Pure has put out a new Semi-Matte Lipstick (even though it says semi, I see it more of a “matte” on its own) that is made with mostly organic butters and fruits – but how did they get them to apply matte, you ask? Read more to find out, including my thoughts** on these deliciously gorgeous lippies!
These new lipsticks come in 9 bold, gorgeous shades, are opaque, super long-wearing and completely gluten-free, vegan, cruelty and toxin free. They apply like butter – due to the fact that they’re made with some amazing butters such as shea and seed butter To achieve that semi-matte finish, 100% Pure uses rice powder! Brilliant right? The result is a hold that lasts for hours! Which is quite impressive given how clean the ingredients are!*
Cactus Bloom: An incredibly vibrant red orange. This colour would be amazing in the summer, but if you’re like me, you’ll wear it whenever you want because you have an obsession with lipsticks……hah.
Tempest: What a shade! This almost neon purple, ultra violet shade is not for the faint of heart. It’s incredibly rich and vibrant in colour and it looks amazing alone or with a neutral eye. (Brings more attention to the lip that way! But you do you, girl!)
*Ingredients: Theobroma Cacao (Organic Cocoa) Seed Butter, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Extracts of Prunus Cerasus (Cherry) Fruit, Prunus Domestica (Plum) Fruit, Vitis Vinifera (Cabernet Grape) Fruit, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit, Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) Fruit, Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Fruit, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit/Leaf/Stem, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate), Cacao (Chocolate), Rosa Centifolia (Rose Petals) Flower, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem, Oryza Sativa (Rice Starch), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Silica, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract

I really wish they had more wearable shades! But so glad they came out with a matte lipstick range!

Yes, I agree. I am hoping they come out with some more shades! Sandstone and Pink Canyon, I think, are the most wearable. Blood Orange is a pretty red!

Wow those look amazing – that purple ?

Thanks for the review Sammie,
The Cactus Bloom and Tempest colours are gorgeous, but I think I’ll go for Mojave and Mirage for an everyday option!
As you said, it’s really cool that they were able to use rice powder to make the lipstick matte! I have to agree with you that I’m really impressed with how clean the ingredients are.
It’s not just about the fruit based ingredients that they’ve included, but also what they’ve excluded! No carmine (crushed bugs), lanolin oil (sheep glands), beeswax, or ricinoleic acid – very impressive.
For any readers looking to go natural (or vegan), we recently posted a piece exposing some lipstick ingredients to avoid. Plus, we discuss some future lipstick innovations that will be particularly exciting for natural ingredient fans!
Thanks again for the great review – love the swatches pic!
