MooGoo Hair Care FOR THE WIN!

FullSizeRender

Alright everyone, I’m about to get real serious – cus this shampoo and conditioner has completely changed my hair/scalp game. Like…FOR REAL WORKS.

I was a bit hesitant to try another hair care product that claimed it was all natural, great for scalp, etc etc…but the reviews I kept seeing, reading and hearing about were just too good! I couldn’t pass it up – and boy, am I glad I didn’t!

Moogoo is an Aussie company known for being one of the most environmentally friendly companies out there. They’re incredibly honest about their ingredients, customer care and sustainability. They’re also known for their skin and hair care range – for anyone, really – but especially those with troublesome skin. (I.e. Sensitive skin, psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis.)

My sensitive skin can be an issue when it comes to my hair care, cus even if it’s organic and has decent ingredients – if it isn’t tackling the areas I need it to (dry, itchy scalp and somewhat dry hair) then it’s just a no go for me and sometimes makes my condition worse! Well, I have completely converted to the Moogoo family! Their Milk ShampooCream Conditioner have both soothed my dry, itchy scalp (and yes, it was even like that in the summer – not just cold, dry months) and I have had zero flakiness! Zero! This shampoo for me, removes all – and I mean ALL – product build-up with just 2 rinses! The end result is my hair and scalp feel and look squeaky clean without the typical stripped-of-any-moisture feeling I’d typically get with other hair care. The moisture retention (without feeling weighted or greasy whatsoever) my hair is left with is amazing! I still sometimes can’t get over how amazing it is, and often chat with my sister about it being a miracle product! (She uses it as well, and raves about it too!)

If you’re into green beauty, and non-toxic hair care..then you know the crap that’s in conventional shampoos and conditioners. Irritants, fragrances, carcinogens and crazy toxins. Yep, even in a “mild” scalp care shampoo. Stay far, far away!

So, what Moogoo has done is they’ve utilized the use of many mild and gentle cleansers (in small amounts), to control the micro-flora of the scalp that can cause all of the many scalp problems we experience. It’s pH balanced, and is suitable for adults through babies. They explain why your scalp is having issues, they even list every ingredient on their site so you can research and know what’s up!

My scalp is causing me “ big issues”

“Psoriasis of the Scalp” can sometimes be confused with Seborrheic Dermatitis. Seborrheic Dermatitis will cause an itchy or flaky scalp, but can also spread to the hairline, ears, the eyes and eyebrows or along the side of the nose as well as other areas. It is related to Cradle Cap and is a reaction to the Malassezia yeast which is a normal part of the skin’s micro-flora. Our Milk Shampoo and Conditioner are natural and do not irritate the scalp, and we include Piroctone Olamine. As these are wash off products, the time that they can remain in contact with the skin to help is limited. If the condition is severe, a cream such as our Scalp Cream can be rubbed onto the affected areas. Please see our “We got mail page” to read of other people’s experiences.

Plaque Psoriasis can be much more difficult to control and there are specialized products that may need a prescription from your doctor.

Moogoo also have a Scalp Cream that they recommend using prior to washing your hair, if you’re really dry and itchy on the scalp. I applied it at night, (in damp hair) and the next morning washed it out. Not only did it give me immediate soothing relief when I first applied it (and throughout the night), but within 2-3 uses my flakiness and itchiness was completely subdued and gone. Along with the shampoo/conditioner – my hair and head was like new!

I cannot rave enough about this hair care, and this company! If you have normal hair, that’s awesome – I still recommend it. If you have coloured hair – get it. If you have dry hair, oily hair, scalp issues, no scalp issues – GET IT. It will make your hair not only feel silky smooth and healthy, but it’s just plain good for your scalp and body. Thank you, Moogoo for your dedication to customers, great ingredients and for creating incredible products! You’ve got a permanent fan.

Feelin’ Lippy: Vegan Lipsticks by Lippy Girl

IMG_1971

Ladies! We’re talkin’ lipsticks today and I couldn’t be more stoked. If you know me, you know I love me some lip products. I dunno, there’s something special about a tube of lipstick. Maybe it’s cus they’ve been around for aaaages…

“Ancient Sumerian men and women were possibly the first to invent and wear lipstick, about 5,000 years ago.[1] They crushed gemstones and used them to decorate their faces, mainly on the lips and around the eyes.[2] Also around 3000 BC to 1500 BC, women in the ancient Indus Valley Civilization applied red tinted lipstick to their lips for face decoration.[3]Ancient Egyptians extracted red dye from fucus-algin, 0.01% iodine, and some bromine mannite, but this dye resulted in serious illness.”

…or maybe it’s just because I’m a makeup lover, and a definitely lipstick hoarder. Lipstick can change your mood, your look..your whole persona, if you really want it to! But enough of why I love it and let’s jump right into why these featured Lippy Girl Lipsticks are rockin’ my life right now!

Focused mostly on lip products, this Canadian-based beauty company Lippy Girl Makeup has been around since 2011. They’ve been making a name for themselves – a great one – when it comes to vegan, cruelty-free and organic makeup. So far, I’ve been incredibly impressed with these amazing, affordable, all natural, top quality makeup products. Here are a few tid-bits that makes this cruelty-free company pretty neat:

Natural ingredients. They use all natural ingredients and none of their products contain chemical preservatives like Parabens, Phthalates or petroleum products.

Organic. Yes! Lippy Girl uses organic oils to create their fabulous makeup products.

Vegan. You read right, everything created by LG makes sure to exclude any animal products. They are formulated with organic oils, bee-free waxes, and natural mineral pigments. Since many people are allergic and get irritated by animal ingredients like carmine, lanolin, keratin, lactose, elastin and more, you will never see these items in their products.

These are a few of the main non-vegan lipstick ingredients, but there are certainly others to watch out for, including casein (from milk), collagen (from animal tissue) and glycerin (from animal fat).

Cruelty free. Lippy Girl Makeup is a PETA certified cruelty free company. They make their promise to never test their products on animals, but they’ve made agreements with their manufacturer and ingredient supplier that they’ll never test on animals either. So solid.

The lipstick containers, which may look plasticky in pictures, are actually made of recyclable aluminum tubes – which make that lovely satisfying little click on closing – and the boxes are made with non-coated cardboard that you can easily recycle!

Okay, let’s get to the good part – SWATCHES!! I’ve taken swatches on my lips, and on my arm so you can get the full gist of it!

L to R: Surf Betty, Schmoopy, Rosie Posie and Boss Lady

IMG_1975

L to R: Surf Betty, Schmoopy, Rosie Posie and Boss Lady (outside in natural light)

“Surf Betty” – A warm, nude-toned beige shade reminiscent of summery days lounging on the beach.

“Schmoopy” – A classic, dusty pink shade (+ lavender undertones) .

“Rosie Posie” – A semi-sheer, warm dusty berry red.

“Boss Lady” – A gorgeous matte, brick red with orange undertones.

Overall, I adore these lipsticks. They’re incredibly smooth, buildable in colour and Lippy Girl has such a great shade selection! I will definitely be adding to my collection (cus I need more to hoard, duh) very soon.

So you’ve made it to the end. Good job! Here’s a special lil something for ya! Use code “hullosam” at checkout for 10% off of your Lippy Girl purchase! Enjoy! Xo

Here’s a smooth little number for your Tuesday by Sensi Sye – “Forgive“! Enjoy! :)

Vampy Fall Makeup Tutorial!

Fall is almost here, and in honour of my favourite season, here’s one of my favourite “dark” looks. Call it goth, call it vampy… I love it. Read on for how to achieve it!

Eyes: I kept the eyes pretty simple, actually. It’s basically all about shading and creating a deepset eye. I applied a matte beige eyeshadow (i.e. Fleur by Alima Pure) all over my brown bone, as well as my lid, as a base for my other shadows to blend onto.

Then, I took a shade similar to Blond (also by Alima) and applied that into my crease and all the way to the inner corner (with a fluffy crease brush) with small circular motions, as my transition colour. (A transition colour makes the other shadows that are darker blend better over top.)

Next, with a smaller brush, I applied a deeper brown shade (i.e. Cocoa) and created an almost sideways ‘v’ shape across my crease and into my lid. Blend, blend and then blend some more to create a super soft eye. I then took a pinky-mauve shade and applied it to the edges of the sideways ‘v’ to soften up the edges a bit. Taking a mix of matte black (i.e Alima Pure’s Satin Matte Eyeliner in Black – also can be used as a shadow) and brown (i.e. Earthy Calm by Kjaer Weis) shades and I deepened the ‘v’ a bit more, to create more depth, intensity and definition. Again, blend it out well!

Now, take a black crayon eyepencil (i.e. Hypnotist Eye Pencil in Ebony by W3LL People) and line your upper waterline – aka tightline.

Get your favourite black liquid or gel eyeliner out and start mapping out a thin wing/cat eye shape. This is completely optional! I love the dramatic effect it gives, but you can do without the liner if you like!

Apply your standard coat of mascara, whichever brand or kind you prefer – I love this W3LL People Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara. It has hyper pure mineral pigments which create the blackest of black for highly defined, luxurious lashes without irritating your eyes. So good!

There you go, you did it! You finished the eyes! Continue with your base/foundation and concealers etc, per usual. Check out my post on How-to Apply Creme Foundation, if you’d like a more in depth tutorial on that!

Lips: The easy part! Pick your favourite deep wine/berry/plum/raisin lip colour (basically any deep, dark and vampy shade you have) and apply it to your lips with a lip brush. (I love this Kjaer Weis one!)

I think a lipstick shade such as ILIA’s Femme Fatale is gorgeous! I sometimes mix it with my black Onyx shadow by Kjaer Weis to give it a deeper, vampier depth.

Ooh la la, you’re now ready to captivate everyone around you with your bold, vampy fall look!

Petit Vour September Box!

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

This months Petit Vour Beauty Box is so great! I can’t wait to dive in and give you a rundown on all the products – but first, if you’re not sure who Petit Vour is, or what they do… click HERE to read my first ever review and thoughts on this cute little company!

Now, let’s start! We’ve got some great goodies this month! And can we just take a moment to admire the beautiful card in this month’s box!? Illustrator Mia Charro (@miacharro) designed it. So pretty!

This months following items were:

Blissoma Herbal Gel Cleanser (2oz) ($16):  Free is a duo-purpose, restorative gel cleanser for when you need to remove difficult makeup and all the day’s dirt in one easy, healing wash. It’s perfect for the most reactive and allergic skin types due to it’s super pure, simple, and elegant botanical ingredients. Together in this beautifully balanced gel, herbs, soapbark, and gentle organic oils come together to rinse skin clean and balance it all at once.

Organic, food-grade Soapbark extract makes bubbles for your face, so you get a nice sudsing action. Along with that, an infusion of organic Yerba Mate sweeps over your skin bringing with it 196 active compounds. That’s more than the ever-popular Green Tea. The 11 Polyphenols Yerba Mate boasts possess potent cell protective properties. Combined with anti-inflammatory Olive Leaf, soothing Linden, regenerating Self Heal (Prunella), and gentle Cornflowers your skin has every reason to be restored. Even the delicate eye area can be easily washed free of waterproof makeup without tugging or any skin distress.

This gel rinses to a lighter and almost “squeaky” clean. It’s still free of any actual soaps though, and is the correct, skin-friendly, acidic PH. Free is also decidedly and appropriately “free” of even natural origin irritants. Free has no scents at all, no ethyl alcohol (grain alcohol), gluten, or nut ingredients, and avoids the usual list of synthetic nasties that never appear in our recipes. If you have really reactive skin then this cleanser is going to be your bff!

Elate Cosmetics Lipstick (Lively) ($17): I am obsessed with this lipstick! Actually, it’s a lipstick that acts more as a lip-tint – which I am not mad about!

It’s absolutely incredible, and super gorgeous on! Made with shea and mango butter, scented with organic vanilla essential oils..Elate doesn’t skimp on amazing, good-for-you ingredients!I love wearing it when I need moisture (seriously, that mango butter and shea do it well!) and a quick allover wash of colour on my lips! LOVE!

Mahalo Pele Mask (No Size Listed. Full Size $64 for 1.7oz):  This is a detoxifying bioactive mask that transforms dry, tired skin into a glowing complexion. It tightens pores, boosts circulation and cell-renewal, calms inflammations, combats and heals blemishes, fades dullness and reduces the signs of aging! You can mix it with water or hydrosol (herbal/floral water) and use it once a week. It can also be used as a spot treatment, which is always great, and now makes it a a nifty little two-in-one product!

MSC Skin Care Exfoliating Body Scrub (No Size Listed. Full Size $33 for 10.5oz): This grapefruit and spearmint body scrub is all organic and a dual-action exfoliator! The raw sugar exfoliates and removes dead skin cells, while a combination of shea butter, sunflower oil, and rice bran oil nourish fresh skin. It’s super invigorating, and super delicious smelling – surely your morning showers will be that much more awakening with this awesome little scrub!

As always, I highly recommend signing up for this monthly beauty box! It’s extremely easy to do and takes no time at all, and you can cancel at anytime! Make your way over to the Petit Vour website to get started!

Zabana Essentials Review

IMG_1452

Zabana Essentials. Where do I start? Hm, let’s see…this company creates amazing products, and Shanell, the founder and owner of ZE is the sweetest person ever! Friendly, timely, super helpful and overall just a great person. Want to know more about the company and products seen above? Keep reading…

11817136_917885648277452_8633568757638627616_n

Shanell Edwards, is the founder of Zabana Essentials (Pronounced: Zab-Ana Essentials), which is located in San Diego, California. Zabana Essentials got its start when Shanell began her quest to find affordable natural-hypoallergenic bath and body products that would not irritate her sensitive skin. (I feel you girl!) She was a college graduate, attempting to start her career in the workforce and was on a tight budget (like many) and found it difficult to afford many of the well-known natural products on the retail shelves. After reading labels and realizing that she had some of the natural ingredients already in her kitchen, she decided to begin researching and experimenting and found that the answers to her quest were right at her fingertips!

It is now Shanell’s mission to offer affordable Natural, Vegan, Human Friendly and Cruelty Free Cosmetics that are not only nurturing for the skin, but enjoyable, attractive, and smell great! Her goal is to reach individuals who may not fit the stereotypical natural products consumer of the past, but people just like herself. People who are seeking healthy, non-intimidating alternatives, for their everyday lifestyle. Pretty great, if I do say so myself!

What does Zabana mean:

It is definitely a unique name! Zabana means Savannah in the Native American Taino dialect. What is special about a Zabana to Shanell and her business? A Zabana is a grassy plain eco-system that may contain an abundance of herbaceous plants that lend benefits to us humans. For centuries therapeutic oils have been extracted from natural plant matter to promote good health and well-being. All Zabana Essentials products are of plant derived origin, and every formulation they use the essence of herbs, whether it be through the use of dry herbs or essential oils, herbal or vegetable based body oils and butters. ZE believe’s it is vital that they use the nutrients provided to us by mother earth, as we can find an abundance of benefits using what has been provided to us.

Shanell kindly sent me a few products to try out (the French Green Clay Facial pictured above was my own purchase!) and here are my thoughts on them!

Coconut Charcoal Clay Armpit Detox Bar

Coconut Charcoal Clay Armpit Detox Bar

Coconut Charcoal Clay Armpit Detox Bar: Naturally occurring earth minerals & plant botanicals to your armpits rescue!

A gentle deep cleansing natural mineral rich bar that detoxifies, exfoliates, unclogs, and freshens armpits. Great to have during the Natural Deodorant Detox Transition or to use to keep your armpits extra fresh and clean when needed, plus Skin Rejuvenating & Healing Oils of: Olive, Coconut, and Shea Butter. I love to use it every shower, or even on a random day where I’ve been sweating a lot and need to freshen up without hopping in the shower. (I just swipe it under my pits and rinse out in the sink.)

TO USE: Moisten bar and create a lather with hands, once you have created a lather apply to armpits and rub in a circular motion. Let lather rest on armpits for 2-3 minutes then rinse.

INGREDIENTS: *Olea (Olive) Europaea Oil, *Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, *Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Activated Charcoal, Dead Sea Salt, Zinc Oxide, Bentonite Clay, Proprietary Blend of Essential Oils

Baking Soda Free Mini Deodorant Stick Lemongrass Nectar: Refresh your pits with this baking soda free (for sensitive types like moiiii) Deodorant Stick! A potent non-toxic/odor protective plant botanical & mineral blend of Odor Absorbing, Antibacterial & Soothing ingredients to keep you smelling fresh & clean.

TO USE: Smooth Deodorant Stick directly to your clean, dry underarm. (Easy peasy.)

INGREDIENTS: *Cocos  Nucifera   (Coconut)  Oil, Simmondsia (Jojoba) Chinensis Oil,  Vitis  (Grapeseed)  Vinifera Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax,  Zinc Oxide, *Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel), Bentonite Clay, *Curcuma Angustifolia (Arrowroot) Powder, Peach Extract, Essential Oils

*Organic, 100% NATURAL & VEGAN, Net wt. .35 fl. oz.  (10g)

My experience with the deodorantAs you know, everyone’s body responds differently to products. Deodorant is no exception, in fact, it’s probably the most fickle, in my opinion. I strive to create content for my blog that is honest, positive and generally encouraging to the audience, consumers and the companies that I have the opportunity to interact and sometimes work with!

I have had people rave about how amazing they’ve smelled wearing this deodorant, about how long it lasts and how terrific it is overall. I completely agree, and at first…I smelled amazing! Fresh, lemongrass/nectar-y, hah! The protection was awesome too. However, after a long day..the deodorant started to smell a bit sour on me. I can’t really explain it, but it just didn’t mesh well with my body/skin/personal odor. This absolutely does not mean it is a bad product, or that I am even implying to not go and buy it, because it could TOTALLY work for you just like it worked for so many other ladies I know that own it!  Bottom line is it just didn’t mix well with me! Typically I wouldn’t even review something I dislike strongly, but this isn’t the case. I didn’t hate it, and still don’t! In fact, I’m kind of sad my body rejects it. It truly is one of the most amazing smelling stick deodorants I’ve ever come across. It just wasn’t for me! :)

Clay Facial Blemish Drying Lotion: French Green

Gotta a zit?! Zap it with this powerful drying lotion (ironic name, right?)! This stuff treats & heals blemishes, reduces redness, inflammation, & irritation. It’s infused with HEALING, DETOXIFYING, TONING & REVITALIZING essential oils of Tea Tree, Clary Sage, Lavender, and Grapefruit.

This stuff is truly potent (in the best way) and miraculous. It really, really works!

TO USE: Use after cleansing, toning, & moisturizing. Dip a cotton swab into the Green Clay sediment. Apply to blemished areas. Allow product to sit for a few hours or overnight, rinse with warm water.

INGREDIENTS: Distilled Water, *Hamamelis (Witch Hazel) Virginiana Extract, French Green Clay, *Vegetable Glycerin, *Maranta (Arrowroot) Arundinacea Powder, Zinc Oxide, Essential Oils

*Organic, 100% NATURAL & VEGAN, Net wt. 1.5 fl. oz. (15 ml)

Lotion Stick Lavender-Lemon: Thirsty skin? Quench it with this awesome Lotion Stick! A rejuvenating, moisturizing, and fast absorbing blend of plant botanicals leave your skin: soft, supple, smooth, and smelling good – lavender lemon-y good! ;)

TO USE: Apply to damp freshly showered skin and pat skin dry for a super velvety effect. On the go? Simply glide the Lotion Stick to the warmth of your skin. I keep this in my purse at all times, and it’s seriously the best on-the-go lotion!

INGREDIENTS: *Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), *Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil), Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed Oil), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla Wax), Essential Oils

100% Natural & Vegan, *Organic, .63 oz. (18g)

Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Facial Cleansing Cloths

Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Facial Cleansing Cloths are my newest obsession for light makeup removing, or refreshing my face! No, I’m not saying that you should only use a facial cloth to remove all of your makeup, and cleanse your face…that wouldn’t be good for your skin. However, there are times in a gal’s life when disposable wipes are needed. I.e. a hot summers day, or you’re at the gym and need to remove your makeup on-the-go. Or maybe you’re hiking, or camping (or both) and there’s not a sink in sight – the Juicy Bamboo cloths come to the rescue!

So, who is/what is Kaia Naturals you ask?

Kaia Naturals is a multi-award winning Toronto based beauty brand with a focus on providing “fast beauty” with a conscience – aka non-toxic ingredients. Their main product, these Juicy Bamboo Natural Facial Cleansing Cloths, were designed as a sustainable alternative to the usual cleansing cloth.

Some of the awards Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Cleansing Cloths have won:

product2-small_09product2-small_11product2-small_13

Made in small batches, these 100% biodegradable cloths are made of one ingredient: bamboo grass, which makes them super soft and free of any harsh dyes, fragrances and chemicals. The cloths are soaked in organic honey and vitamins B12, C, and E. They’re also 100% biodegradable and act as a cleanser, toner, and eye-makeup remover! They nourish AND re-balance your skin without stripping it bare and leaving it dry. In the past – and generally even now – facial wipes have dried out my skin, but these all-natural bamboo fiber cloths are extremely hydrating and gentle enough for even the most sensitive of skins…I mean, you can use them around your eye area! In fact, they are so gentle, they are also the official cleansing cloth approved for use in oncology esthetics training. That should say enough. :)

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

These cleansing cloths contain a mixture of:

  • Miel (honey) - non-irritating and known for its healing properties, honey is filled with antioxidants and soothes skin
  • Sorbitan laurate - cleansing agent
  • Sunflower seed oil - emollient
  • Hydrolyzed jojoba esters - emollient

Annnnnd they are gluten-free, cruelty-free, sulfate-free and paraben-free!

product3-small_03product3-small_05product3-small_07product3-small_11

So, as you can see above, these are highly-concentrated cloths with skin-loving nutrients. They’ve got a very distinct, citrusy (and quite pleasant/soothing) scent that comes from a blend of natural essential oils such as spearmint, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon and lime. (Yum!) In addition to being eco-friendly, non-toxic, and having amazing ingredients…the packaging the cloths come in are quite unique! Unlike most cleansing cloths which come in a resealable bag (and then dry out super quick), the cloths come in a little plastic container! So, when you’re done using the cloths up you can re-use the container for storing makeup or pencils…or whatever your heart desires!

You can find them in a pack of 30 cloths for $15.50 or 20 Individually wrapped cloths for $19.50 – perfect for on-the-go! Even if you don’t need them to remove makeup, they’re a great natural hand-wipe alternative to keep in your bag, car, etc.

Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Facial Cleansing Cloths are available to purchase in some select luxury spas and boutiques across the US and Canada.
