Hey everyone! Sammie here. Just wanted to preface this post by saying how excited I am for the this guest blogger (my sister) and the next post on Saturday (a surprise). Hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments or ideas or whatever! Thanks so much, and enjoy Jordie‘s post!
It’s finally here, a new record by The Honey Trees! I discovered this lovely duo a few years ago on Myspace, ha! (those were the days). I remember instantly falling in love with Becky & Jacob’s beautiful melodies and almost perfect harmonies. I played their Wake the Earth EP over and over again, longing for more and alas! Here it is! Their new record ‘Bright Fire’ dropped in April, and like their last EP, this one has been on repeat a lot lately. This is the kind of album you just lay on your floor and listen to. It’s downright dreamy, whimsical, poetic and just beautiful. I especially love how 60’s inspired some of the tracks are. You’ll just have to take a listen for yourself! Purchase it here or on iTunes!
This young Blackpool native is nothing short of a sensation. I discovered her a bit late to the game, unfortunately, while listening to the newest Bombay Bicycle Club record (she’s the female lead in “Luna”, in which she is absolutely AMAZING), and I haven’t disliked a single song of hers yet! (Don’t plan on it either.) Morris’ sound is sophisticated, delicate, and classy, all while garnering refreshing elements to her tunes. At times she reminds me a tad bit of Bjork, dare I say!
“I’d say that I’m a singer songwriter primarily; I play piano and build the sound from there. I’m a little obsessed with the combination of organic and synthetic; beautiful raw piano with delicate electronic elements and rhythm..” said Rae in a recent interview done by The Tab.
One of the main reason why I love Rae; her ability to fuse various styles of music together flawlessly. She maintains this beautiful, classic sound, and yet still surprises you with her many talents. Not to mention, she possesses the ability to awe you with her striking beauty and style…and that hair. Oh, that hair!
The video, in combination with Morris’ stationary, mannequin-like poses, and stop motion becomes less of a query in search of an answer and more of a statement on loneliness, relationships and communication. “I wanted people to be able to feel the discomfort and awkwardness of feeling misunderstood,” says Morris. “I wanted people to see me as a mannequin shining on the outside but with the inside well hidden.
This week I decided instead of my typical playlist with top five songs, I’d do (drumroll please…) 11 songs! Annnnd, I’m also going to start including a SoundCloud or Spotify playlist if I can. I know, I know, really pushin’ the envelope here. Anyways, here they are, hope you enjoy!
You can find out more info on the bands in my playlist this week by clicking the title/band name. It’ll redirect you to the specific song on SoundCloud, and then you choose to Follow them (on the right side below the player) or just go to their actual Profile Page to check out more info on the lefthand side! :)
Hope you are all having a wonderful start to your Wednesday!
So, here’s my song of the day, along with the awesome music video! Really lovin’ what this NY band, ASTR‘s putting out right now. I waited (impatiently) for some new music by them to come out and voila! They just recently dropped an amazing EP titled ‘Varsity’, and it seriously rules. Varsity is made up of catchy pop tunes, with this amazing hip-hop/80’s vibe. Zoe’s vocals are bone-chilling, and every one of their songs will make you groove. Definitely check it out!
