Kiss My Honey is The Balm!

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Welcome back, friends!

I trust you all had a wonderful Easter weekend and spent some time with family/friends!

I wanted to introduce to you, and do a quick review on what you see right up there in that there photograph (I actually wrote that like I was reading that with a twang…). Kiss My Honey Lip Balm! My new obsession as far as lip balms are concerned. I have been wearing it on my lips now for a few days and notice a MEGA difference. No gimmicks here, folks. I don’t play around with lip stuff. I am a stickler for a good balm, mainly cus my lips can get so dry and goodness, it gets so annoying…but these two balms are just bliss! The ingredients are preservative free, chemical free, and paraben free. Not to mention their two flavours, Chocolate and Mint, are great.

So, let’s talk about the ingredients in these balms (specifically the Chocolate balm) for a hot minute!  They’re comprised of organic beeswax, organic coconut oil, organic unrefined Shea butter, vitamin E Grapefruit seed extract, organic sweet almond oil, organic peppermint essential oil (for mint flavored) and 100% chocolate flavor oil (chocolate flavored lip balm). Let me tell you what…I want chocolate every time I pop open that Chocolate lip balm lid. It smells THAT great.

The consistency of these balms is smooth, almost velvety like. It doesn’t have ANY stickiness whatsoever – which occurs often with some natural balms that use honey – and I LOVE THAT. Both Chocolate and Mint balms are colourless – which I prefer (for lipstick over it purposes). They just glide on over your lips with ease, leaving them feeling soft and “kissable” (haha) for forever! Even hours after the first fresh coat, my lips are so soft. It’s a nice change from all the crappy balms that just dry out, or have too much fragrance in them…including parabens and other non-quality ingredients. That being said, I can put the lip balm on before my lipstick of choice and it isn’t greasy or sticky, so the lipstick just glides on top of it with no issue at all and my lips look moisturized and softer. Who wouldn’t want that?!

I have made up my mind recently that I am going to slowly transition my everyday cosmetics, beauty and body products – including all my daily makeup – from toxic to organic, natural, makeup. These balms are a great start! Baby steps, ladies. No need to rush. In fact, here’s a great blog post by the wonderful Amanda over at Organic Bunny about “How To Switch From Toxic Makeup to Natural Makeup“. I learned a lot, and will continue to keep on keepin’ on with this!

That’s all for today, folks! Thanks for reading, I hope these posts encourage, inspire, motivate, excite you, and all the other great verbs. If you’d like to purchase these balms, and find out more regarding Kiss My Honey lip products, you may do so HERE, as well as check out their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and blog!

And last – but certainly not least – here’s a little somethin’ somethin’ for ya music-heads (like myself). It has Honey in the track title…so, naturally, I had to. Plus, Joseph Arthur is wonderful. Like a quiet, restful nap on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy!

Bonjour! I am baaaack!

Hello beauties! Ladies, and gents!

I’m aware, I’m aware…I’ve been gone for FOREVER. Like, really, forever…it’s been way too long. BUT, in the process of this little M.I.A ordeal (not the singer, the acronym), I have had time to really plan on where I’ve been wanting this blog to go to next. Next? Like, i.e.:

1. immediately following in time, order, importance, etc.: the next day; the next person in line.
2. nearest or adjacent in place or position: the next room.
3. nearest in relationship or kinship.

See, that’s what I’ve been struggling with! CONTENT. Content that I actually feel excited to post about, excited to share and talk about! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE MUSIC (duh..it’s muh life). However, I also love beauty. Cosmetics. Skincare. Pharmaceuticals. Makeup reviews. Makeup tips…etc, etc. I have a passion for it. It’s kinda outta control sometimes….but hey, that’s what passion is right? Errr…right.

As you all know (or may know), I am a freelance makeup artist (weddings, fun styled shoots etc). So, makeup is something I actually do on occasion. I love it! It’s a chance for me to use my artistic talents, think outside of the box, play around, relax (it’s therapeutic for me) and have fun. If there is one thing any of my friends or family would tell you about me, it’d be that I am a walking mini store (and possibly even encyclopedia) for makeup, lipsticks, and other beauty products. I constantly have swatches on my hand or arm, two or more lipsticks in my purse – actually, I think at one point I may have had like a whole mini case FULL of lipsticks and glosses (11 to be exact). I love giving advice on how to apply makeup, what to wear…what not to wear, what’s healthy for your skin, what isn’t so healthy and so on. Again, like I said, PASSION. It’s real.

(Just me being artsy..don’t worry about it.)

So, alas, here we are. Where are you going with this Sammie, you may ask? Exactly where I want to. This blog will be filled with beauty items, reviews, photos of #whatsinmypurse, #makeuptipswithsammie, occasional giveaways, tips on what to look for when purchasing makeup, tips on how to save money while doing so, luxury items, quality items, organic and holistic care (cus LAWD knows I love me some of that) and THEN – BAM – your classic A Musical Mind playlist of sorts to go along with the mood of the day/week/month! Or, just my faves at the moment. Implementing the two things I love and am passionate about: makeup and music. What could be better? Makeup, music and unending sushi? Duh. Okay, okay, but really. Hope you all like what’s comin’ for ya! I’m excited. Stay tuned, kids. The best is yet to come!

P.s. Speaking of music…here’s one of my favourite songs at the moment! A rad band from Bristol, England by the name of Meadowlark. Good stuff, good stuff!

So, here are a couple of photos of the makeup I did on my client! Also, the rundown of everything I did below!

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

Primer/foundation: Laura Mercier Radiance Primer.

Makeup Forever HD Foundation.

Concealer (Under-eye): Benefit Erase Paste Brightening Concealer in fair.

Brows: Benefit Gimme Me Brow in medium/deep.

Eyes: (Primer) NARS “Pro Prime” Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.

Shadow: I did a soft winged eyeliner, (mix of black liquid liner and brown pencil smudged out a bit, on the bottom lash line as well) with a couple of different brown/neutral shimmery eyeshadows on the lids. I tight-lined with a black eye pencil, and lined the waterline with the same brown pencil used on upper and lower lash line.

In the tear ducts and below the waterline along the brown pencil, I put a Japanese gel – intensely silvery/glittery – liner. I can’t remember the brand. I also put a bit of The Balm Mary Lou Manizer in the tear ducts to brighten it even more.

Cheeks: Lightly contoured with Mac Harmony (in their blushes). On apples of cheeks, I applied Mac’s Modern Mandarin to create a rosy, flush cheek.

Highlight: The Balm Mary Lou Manizer on bridge and ball of nose, cheekbones, lightly on the temples and cupids bow (above the lip line). I also applied some of the highlighter to the highest point of her eyelid to bounce off light and glow even more.

Eyelashes: No falsies here – it’s all in the primer! Clinique Lash Building Primer. Seriously, it’s amazing.

The mascara we used is the brides own from Japan! The ever amazing Shiseido Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Edge Meister in black.

Lips: Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in Nude Delight, with a light top coat of Mac’s Dazzleglass in Date Night.

And there you have it! That’s the look. If I missed something, or you have a question about something specific, let me know!

Enjoy the tunes! xo

Video of the week: Rae Morris “Do You Even Know?”

Rae Morris has really outdone herself this time….I am utterly enamoured with her new video for her track titled “Do You Even Know?“.

This young Blackpool native is nothing short of a sensation. I discovered her a bit late to the game, unfortunately, while listening to the newest Bombay Bicycle Club record (she’s the female lead in “Luna”, in which she is absolutely AMAZING), and I haven’t disliked a single song of hers yet! (Don’t plan on it either.) Morris’ sound is sophisticated, delicate, and classy, all while garnering refreshing elements to her tunes. At times she reminds me a tad bit of Bjork, dare I say!

“I’d say that I’m a singer songwriter primarily; I play piano and build the sound from there. I’m a little obsessed with the combination of organic and synthetic; beautiful raw piano with delicate electronic elements and rhythm..” said Rae in a recent interview done by The Tab.

One of the main reason why I love Rae; her ability to fuse various styles of music together flawlessly. She maintains this beautiful, classic sound, and yet still surprises you with her many talents. Not to mention, she possesses the ability to awe you with her striking beauty and style…and that hair. Oh, that hair!

The video, in combination with Morris’ stationary, mannequin-like poses, and stop motion becomes less of a query in search of an answer and more of a statement on loneliness, relationships and communication. “I wanted people to be able to feel the discomfort and awkwardness of feeling misunderstood,” says Morris. “I wanted people to see me as a mannequin shining on the outside but with the inside well hidden.
