Interview with Julian Dente | YØUTH

So pumped for today’s featured Interview! My good pal from Nashville, Julian Dente recently started up his own solo musical project called YØUTH and it is truly amazing! I have had the privilege of knowing Julian for about 4 years now and the kid is seriously talented! Had the chance to reconnect with him – since my move from Nashville to Charlotte – and ask him a few questions about this awesome new project he’s taken on. Here’s the exclusive interview, enjoy!

Where are you from?
Nashville, TN born/raised.

How long have you been playing music?
My first memory of playing music is in the back of a tour bus with an acoustic guitar when I was 7 years old, I’m 22 now so I guess 15 years. Wow.

How did you form YØUTH and how long has it been?
I originally was playing music just as Julian Dente, released an EP in 2012 and did a few east coast tours with my good friend Jesse Denaro in 2013. This year I decided I wanted to set myself apart from the singer-songwriter scene and brand myself in a new way. So it’s really only been a few months!

What’s your driving force?
Connection. Music has helped me through so much anxiety and confusion, knowing people my age and older were struggling with the same things and understood. I want to convey the brokenness we all feel, and the hope/redemption that’s available to everyone.

Who are your main influences?
My parents for sure. Both of them are Berklee grads and had/have a very successful career in music. They’ve always been completely supportive and encouraging of everything I want to do, I don’t know where I’d be without them.

What do you think sets you apart from any other artist or band?
Probably the main thing is that I play all the instruments on all of my recordings.

How do you shut yourself off and focus to rehearse or record?
I usually just sit on my back porch with an acoustic guitar and record voice memos of ideas until my phone dies.

How did your name “YØUTH” come about?
My name (Julian) means “Youthful” so I just took that and rolled with it.

So, for those readers who haven’t heard your stuff yet, what can they expect from the tracks you put out?
Songs about the confusion of growing up, hope in something bigger than me, and a lot of breakup songs.

How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
My website is, and my new single is currently on and is free to download when you Like my Facebook page! Also feel free to follow me on Instagram and Twitter: @Youth_TN

Anything else you want to add?
Thanks for having me on your blog, Sam! And thanks so much to anyone who took the time to read this/listen to my music. Means the world to me.

YOU BETCHA, JULIAN! Loved havin’ ya. Everyone go support this incredibly talented dude! Listen to his music, download it, share it, love it…

See ya’ll soon! xx

Cookie Cult Playlist

Happy Monday all!

Hope you had a great weekend, whether you celebrated Easter with your family and loved ones, or just relaxed and ate tasty treats..I’m sure it ruled. Today’s Playlist is inspired and brought to you by my close gal-pal Jessie and her cookie company “Cookie Cult“. Jessie is one of my closest friends here in Charlotte, she’s sweet, funny and talented beyond we both share the same insane love for music. In fact, she hosts a radio show once in a blue moon called Sound Blanket and ROCKS it.

Jessie bein’ a babe, bakin’ some of her famous chocolate-chip cookies.

Anyways, back to the cookies…check out Cookie Cult’s mission statement:

“The Cookie Cult is allegedly conspiring to control world affairs by masterminding a simple cookie and planting delicious agents of confectionery into government and massive corporations to establish a new world order and gain further political power and influence.

Kidding.  It’s just a delicious cookie.  No big deal.”

But really. GET SOME COOKIES. They’re amazing. I promise you won’t be let down. Also, because Jessie and her cookies rule, and she’s mah girl….here’s today’s Cookie Cult Playlist – all songs picked out by the Cookie Cult CEO herself. Enjoy! And don’t forget to follow The Cookie Cult on Instagram: @thecookiecult, Twitter: @thecookiecult and Like them on Facebook! :)

Song of the Week: “The Writer”

Right now, I can’t get enough of this song by Chance The Rapper titled “The Writer”. I am obsessed with the melody, the beat, the piano, Chance’s style of rapping..everything. It has such a great old school vibe to it, and if you know me, you know I’m a sucker for old school hip-hop a la Souls of Mischief, ATCQ, Mos Def..etc.

I found out that the song actually comes from Chicago collective THEMpeople‘s mixtape Smoke Breaks IV, where it serves as a bonus track. It was apparently made back in 2012, when Chance was working on his 10 Day mixtape. Over a reflective, piano-driven beat, Chance raps about striving for success and reflects that he’s “probably as good as Elton John.”

Happy Birthday Baby-Sis-Best-Friend, Jordana Nicholson!

Hey everyone, sorry I’m so late to posting this today – had a nutsssss day at work! Anyways, here we are. Today is an EXTREMELY special day because it is April 14th, the day my darling younger sister, Jordana Nicholson was born! She is 23 today and more beautiful than ever! I mean, have you even looked at her photos lately?!

Alright, alright. I’m done…for now. I just can’t help myself. She is as beautiful inside as she is out, and she can bake a meeeeeean cupcake, along with anything else food related. She’s got style for days, including legs for days (haha) and she’s selfless, caring, funny and an amazing sister, daughter and wife. I could go on and on. I am so proud of her and all she has accomplished. :)

SO, today’s Monday Playlist is in honour of my dearest baby sister. Some of her faves, some of my faves…some of OUR faves. Hope you enjoy ’em! (There are 50 tracks, so you’ll never get bored….hahahahaaaaa)
