I’m A Choosy Chick

The Choosy Chick box I received

Would you just look at all these goods!? The Choosy Chick knows how to supply a girl with some great clean products! The Choosy Chick (TCC) is committed to researching, sampling and selecting the finest non-toxic personal care products.  They’ve developed their very own standard (click to read more about that) for ingredients which has become the foundation for their product selections. What I love so much about TCC is that they are not only wonderful at what they do, but they are not fooled by natural sounding names, or natural looking packaging. They truly dig  deep to find products that meet their standard of organic and natural.  So, as a result of their ‘choosy’ nature, they offer the purest, most effective and unique products available right now. I just love that – getting to choose the products that fit right for you, and knowing that they’ve been hand-picked by some really smart, honest and organic-loving people!

The items seen in my box are:

All of these products have been used and absolutely loved! TCC really does pick the best products to be sold on their site – I am VERY impressed with the quality! The super cute packaging it came in doesn’t hurt either!

A few products I especially love are:

The Au Naturale Eye Pencil in ‘Coco’. It glides on SO smoothly (no tugging needed, hallelujah!) and the formulation is super gentle, so it won’t irritate my eyes. Win!  (Photo below of ‘Coco’ swatched on my arm.)

Josh Rosebrook’s Styling Cream. This. Stuff. Is. Awesome! It provides texture to my hair, with a nice medium hold (as it says) and smells AMAZING! Kind of like a lemon sorbet…YUM! I also love that this styling cream stimulates the cells in the hair follicle and feeds the scalp to keep your hair growing thick and beautiful. All of the benefits! Plus, it’s not stiff and washes easily from the hair. I can’t seem to get enough of it!

Aleavia: Relieve Your Skin

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

I recently came across this skincare line that claimed to balance the pH of the skin and act as emollients or conditioners for the skin. The entire line, working in a “positive manner with the body’s bio-system to aid in skin restoration, which expedites the recovery and repair of skin from various unpleasant and unattractive skin conditions.” That was pretty impressive to me, and so, I dived right in to see if what these skincare products claimed to do was true.

Aleavia‘s products are alkaloid based bio-stimulants which actually feed a wide variety of friendly microorganisms on the skin causing the healthy bacteria to go into a feeding frenzy. This ultimately results in much higher activity levels of normal friendly bacteria. Over a short period of time, the “good guys” will completely overwhelm any harmful bacteria, virtually eliminating skin disorders of many types. These skin care products accomplish this on a molecular level using a combination of 100%-natural, organic, and environmentally safe ingredients.

Pretty great, right? I mean, why subject your skin to any sort of harsh chemical or toxic ingredient? Aleavia has been such a Godsend to me. Simple, cleansing, soothing, restoring and refreshing. I’ve been loving it!

Immerse Lavender Prebiotic Soothing Body Wash

Boy, was I ever impressed (still am) with this extremely moisturizing, and calming body wash. You know, I remember back in the day when I’d use a generic body wash (full of terrible ingredients) that claimed a lot of these same properties, but wasn’t living up to the hype. I’d wonder why my body felt super dry and almost “squeaky”…not realizing I had stripped it completely void of any natural and beneficial body oils. This body wash does exactly the opposite and is amazing and definitely leaves me smelling lovely, fresh and feeling smooth and clean.

Cleanse Prebiotic Neutralizing Facial Cleanser and Makeup Remover

No lie, my hands-down, favourite facial cleanser right now! When I want a serious cleanse from a full-face of makeup – this is it.

It’s hard to find an organic, chemical-free, natural oil based cleanser that does the job of completely getting off ALL makeup. Sometimes it’s tough because there isn’t enough lather, or you feel like you need to really “wipe” all of what’s left, off with a cloth or something. The best thing about Cleanse is it is 100% organic, and it removes make up quickly and entirely, all in one wash. Seriously, the best facial cleanser I’ve come across yet.

Restore Prebiotic Skin Restoration

This…spray…is…awesome! It was specifically created to take unhealthy skin and restore it back to healthier conditions. Of course, with all natural ingredients, the Restore spray is truly..well, restorative, ha. It not only can be used on your face and body, but your scalp as well. Lord knows with all the crazy ingredients in hair care products I’ve used year after year, prior to detoxing my skin/body care, my scalp needs some healing! It can tend to be dry, sometimes itchy, so I welcome any organic/clean hair care product that claims to soothe and restore.

Lately, after I shower, I towel dry my hair and section off some front pieces (where I get most dry) and spray it with Restore. It immediately feels refreshed and soothes any irritation I may still have – I’ve definitely noticed a difference! Along with the uses mentioned above, this spray is also great for those with rosacea, eczema, acne or scarring.

Restore Prebiotic Skin Restoration

I really do love this whole organic skincare/body care line and recommend it to anyone and everyone! The simple, prebiotic ingredients are seriously amazing and I can personally say that I am very happy with the results. I will continue to use Aleavia and look forward to healthier, happier skin!

LONG LIVE Devan Dubois, “Le Fou”

Hey guys! Welcome to my special Tuesday post, which I’m super excited about! My Nashville friend, Devan Dubois (with Sensibility Music) just released a new full-length album today called “Le Fou” and it’s amazing! Truly a work of art. It’s currently available on iTunes, and you all should go buy it.

Devan, not too long ago, was featured in Nylon Magazine, along with his LONG LIVE music video which you can view below. Want some more info and background on him? Well, he was also interviewed in UK’s Far Out Magazine, which can be read here aaaaand he was interviewed in BEAT Magazine, which can be read heeeere!

So basically, I shouldn’t need to write or say much – cus the articles, and especially his music, will do the talking. All in all, he is a friend of many talents. A visual and musical kaleidoscope, if you will. Nylon said it best in their article:

You can’t deny that black and white music videos add a level of cool, but when you pair that with some trippy visuals, your eyes will be glued to the screen. His southern roots shine through as his folky guitar rhythms are accompanied by some hip-hop drums– two styles we love and go perfectly together.

So, here you go. Watch it. Love it. Buy it. Share it. Thank you! Xo

Track Of The Week – Wye Oak’s “Civilian”

Today’s featured song of the week is Wye Oak‘s “Civilian”. It’s been around for a good bit now – since 2011, has played on Walking Dead, Being Human, One Tree Hill… It’s definitely one of those songs I probably won’t ever tire of. The Baltimore duo craft a virtual whispering gallery, carefully molding sounds right around your ear while generously sharing a sensation of grandeur and intense volume. One of my favourite aspects of this song is Jenn Wasner’s beautifully understated vocals, they’re haunting and kind of lend this lazy vibe to “Civilian”. Her enunciation is often loose and carries the melody so beautifully, it’s hard not to get lost in this track.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I’ve listened to it like 5 times already today.

Season Of Rain

Happy Wednesday! This isn’t a new artist, or new song…or a pretty video (not really a video to watch actually) but it’s one of my favourite Josh Garrel songs and I’ve had it stuck in my head now for quite awhile. So, if you’re keen, please go ahead and accompany me while I indulge in some soulful, vibey, neo-folk sounds. You cool with that? Good. I know I am! ;)

So, without further adieu, here is the beautiful “Season Of Rain” from Josh Garrels 2008 album (one of my faves) “Jacaranda“:

Song of the Week: “The Writer”

Right now, I can’t get enough of this song by Chance The Rapper titled “The Writer”. I am obsessed with the melody, the beat, the piano, Chance’s style of rapping..everything. It has such a great old school vibe to it, and if you know me, you know I’m a sucker for old school hip-hop a la Souls of Mischief, ATCQ, Mos Def..etc.

I found out that the song actually comes from Chicago collective THEMpeople‘s mixtape Smoke Breaks IV, where it serves as a bonus track. It was apparently made back in 2012, when Chance was working on his 10 Day mixtape. Over a reflective, piano-driven beat, Chance raps about striving for success and reflects that he’s “probably as good as Elton John.”

Take a listen to the full song “The Writer” here:

Have a great Wednesday! Xo
