Hynt Beauty Makeup Review

IMG_7252-2

I recently found out that Hynt Beauty is the new re-brand of Christopher Drummond! Make’s TOTAL sense – seeing as how I am obsessed with their (famous) concealer and other great products. Here is a little overview of how Hynt came to be, and what it stands for.

Hynt was born through Co-Founder Meryl Marshall s need and passion to find makeup and skincare products that offered her the assurance and confidence that whatever she was putting on her skin was safe, non-irritable and carcinogen-free. (My kinda gal!)

Meryl had recently conquered breast cancer, and so she took great care in educating herself on the product labels and on each of the ingredients formulated into her everyday beauty products. Quickly, her search for skin-healthy but still luxurious beauty essentials turned into an elusive hunt.

To her disappointment, Meryl found that other skin-healthy lines failed to fulfill her desire to use luxuriously textured, richly pigmented, and smartly packaged products. Such aesthetic touches are essential to how a woman feels each time she applies her coveted makeup essentials — magical, beautiful, special.

Meryl decided to create her own cosmetics line using state-of-the-art natural formulations. Now women who prioritize the purity and health of their skin have a glamorous, fun and trust-worthy beauty collection that they can wholeheartedly enjoy every day at any moment.

Vampy Fall Makeup Tutorial!

Fall is almost here, and in honour of my favourite season, here’s one of my favourite “dark” looks. Call it goth, call it vampy… I love it. Read on for how to achieve it!

Eyes: I kept the eyes pretty simple, actually. It’s basically all about shading and creating a deepset eye. I applied a matte beige eyeshadow (i.e. Fleur by Alima Pure) all over my brown bone, as well as my lid, as a base for my other shadows to blend onto.

Then, I took a shade similar to Blond (also by Alima) and applied that into my crease and all the way to the inner corner (with a fluffy crease brush) with small circular motions, as my transition colour. (A transition colour makes the other shadows that are darker blend better over top.)

Next, with a smaller brush, I applied a deeper brown shade (i.e. Cocoa) and created an almost sideways ‘v’ shape across my crease and into my lid. Blend, blend and then blend some more to create a super soft eye. I then took a pinky-mauve shade and applied it to the edges of the sideways ‘v’ to soften up the edges a bit. Taking a mix of matte black (i.e Alima Pure’s Satin Matte Eyeliner in Black – also can be used as a shadow) and brown (i.e. Earthy Calm by Kjaer Weis) shades and I deepened the ‘v’ a bit more, to create more depth, intensity and definition. Again, blend it out well!

Now, take a black crayon eyepencil (i.e. Hypnotist Eye Pencil in Ebony by W3LL People) and line your upper waterline – aka tightline.

Get your favourite black liquid or gel eyeliner out and start mapping out a thin wing/cat eye shape. This is completely optional! I love the dramatic effect it gives, but you can do without the liner if you like!

Apply your standard coat of mascara, whichever brand or kind you prefer – I love this W3LL People Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara. It has hyper pure mineral pigments which create the blackest of black for highly defined, luxurious lashes without irritating your eyes. So good!

There you go, you did it! You finished the eyes! Continue with your base/foundation and concealers etc, per usual. Check out my post on How-to Apply Creme Foundation, if you’d like a more in depth tutorial on that!

Lips: The easy part! Pick your favourite deep wine/berry/plum/raisin lip colour (basically any deep, dark and vampy shade you have) and apply it to your lips with a lip brush. (I love this Kjaer Weis one!)

I think a lipstick shade such as ILIA’s Femme Fatale is gorgeous! I sometimes mix it with my black Onyx shadow by Kjaer Weis to give it a deeper, vampier depth.

Ooh la la, you’re now ready to captivate everyone around you with your bold, vampy fall look!

Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

I had the opportunity to try out some awesome mineral based makeup from the lovely Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques  Even with all the makeup I have, I’m always on the hunt for new options for eye shadows, foundation..etc. I was able to pick three items from the company I wanted to try out, and was sent a full size Creme Foundation (in Neutral No. 10), a full size nourishing Eye Makeup Remover, and a full size Pressed Eyeshadow Duo. I’ve had quite some time to test out these products and here are my thoughts!

Here’s a few more fun Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques tid-bits of info for ya, so you can get to know them a bit better!

Their Mission: To provide women with truly natural and healthy beauty products and to empower women to embrace and celebrate their unique beauty.

Company Overview: We have developed our healthy, natural and organic makeup line to not only enhance your natural beauty, but nourish your skin at the same time.

Cruelty-Free: At Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques, we have always believed passionately in providing our consumers with the finest, natural and certified organic ingredients to create the most exquisite, healthy makeup available for your skin without animal testing.

Nourishing cream for removing eye makeup.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect but I received this product. I had heard a lot about oils removing eye makeup really well, and have tried coconut oil in the past, as well as olive oil. However, I still wanted an actual (labeled) ‘eye makeup remover’ that was super effective in removing even the toughest, more water-proof eye-makeup. This one is awesome!

Lauren Brooke’s Eye Makeup Remover is made with 100% Organic Oils and Plant Extracts, such as healing Comfrey, Burdock and Plantain herbs, to nourish the delicate tissue around your eyes as you cleanse, plus a lovely little touch of Sweet Orange Oil is added for a soft citrus scent each time you use it.

I basically take a small scoop of the product – by the way it’s almost like a balm consistency – and rub a very small amount gently around my eye area. I’ll work it into some of the harder to remove makeup areas, then I’ll grab a cotton pad and wipe the makeup away! Sometimes it takes more than one try, but it is truly so easy and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling super greasy, just feeling smooth and hydrated! I especially enjoy how gentle it is! No need to rub hard, or pull at the eye area – which is super sensitive! I’m a big fan!

Key Ingredients:

  • Jojoba – Nourishing and hydrating.
  • Comfrey – Emollient, antioxidant. Supplies skin with the antioxidant vitamin E, gently lubricates, improves elasticity.
  • Burdock – Healing, anti-irritant. Alleviates redness and skin irritations and fights acne.
  • Plantain – Regenerating and rejuvenation. An anti-irritant that promotes the healing of skin and the absorption of nutrients.

Creme Foundation

I have tried quite a few foundations. From liquids to serums, loose powders to pressed…but this foundation is truly special! It’s a cream foundation (or ‘creme’), which I never thought I’d even be into! But this lightweight, all-natural foundation glides easily onto your skin, yet has incredible coverage and staying power! Not to mention it is made with 100% natural vitamins, minerals & pigments which are blended in a 97.5% Certified Organic Botanical Base. It is also formulated with properties of zinc oxide, Certified Organic Argan Oil and extracts of green tea, passionflower and raspberry to protect your skin from the sun with a rated SPF of 28!

I have found the best way to apply this foundation is to apply it with fingers first – dot it on areas you need coverage – and then take a damp beauty blender or Lauren Brooke’s Blending Sponge and blend it out to your liking. This foundation tends to be somewhat dewy – so if you’re more oily/combo, I would recommend setting it with a mineral loose powder or a setting powder!

I’ve really enjoyed using Lauren Brooke’s creme foundation! LB says that unlike other liquid and creme foundations it does not block pores, so I could use it everyday, and I definitely plan on getting some good use out of it!

Key Ingredients:

  • Beeswax: Hydrating ingredient that increases the skin’s essential moisture.
  • Argan Oil: Rich in Fatty Acids. Protects skin against pollution & sun exposure.
  • Silica: Creates a soft, finished look reducing appearance of large pores, fine lines & wrinkles.
  • Phytolipid Complex: Jojoba, Rosehip, Neem & Vitamin E Oil. Moisturizing, nourishing & regenerative.
  • Green Tea: Antioxidant. Phenol & Vitamin C rich.
  • Zinc Oxide: Anti-inflammatory, emollient. Reduces and supports the healing of epidermal irritation, protects against UVA rays, soothes the skin.

Pressed Eyeshadow Duo in Evergreen/Indian Summer (Matte/Demi-Matte)

I love the options of shades that LB gives you for their eyeshadow duos! I especially love the colour pairing of this Evergreen/Indian Summer shadows (pictured above). The powder is nice and light yet highly pigmented, which is always a plus. The thing that is great about pressed colors is they’re richly pigmented, they go on silky smooth & blend easily and beautifully..AND they last all-day. Love!

Key Ingredients:

  • Zinc: Natural UVA & UVB protection. Protects against free radical damage.
  • Broccoli Seed: Rich in Vitamin A & Essential Fatty Acids, Moisturizing.
  • Orange Peel Wax: Excellent emollient properties, provides a protective barrier for skin, anti-microbial.
  • Lecithin: Rebuilding, restorative agent. Supplies Vitamin B and reduces cholesterol build-up in the skin.
  • Jojoba: Nourishing and hydrating.
  • Allantoin: Stimulates new and healthy tissue growth, a skin cell proliferant.

Gabriel Cosmetics – Zuzu Luxe Palette

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Zuzu Luxe “Peep Show” palette

If you’re in the market for a really awesome cruelty-free, gluten-free, and toxic-free neutral palette with a pop of colour (a sizzling gold/yellow shade) – this Zuzu Luxe “Peep Show” Palette by Gabriel Cosmetics is totally for you! It’s been a go-to for me lately, as I love the deeper bronzy/chocolate colours! I love a great summery palette and this one definitely achieves that sun-kissed, summer-look!

I really enjoy mixing and matching the super blendable shadows. I apply it with a dry brush for soft day time eye look, or I use a damp brush for a more bold, intense look. It’s however you wish to do it – I personally like to mix the two techniques! The whole palette contains natural ingredients including Titanium Dioxide which functions as a natural sun block. So, you’re not only making your eyes stand out, but you’re protecting them too in the process. Win/win!

The Zuzu Luxe Peep Show Palette comes with 4 different eyeshadow shades. They are:

Peep Show Shadow Colors
Amber – Sizzling Gold
Toasted – Warm Brown/shimmer
Velvet – Deep Brown/shimmer
Nude – Neutral Ivory

Peep Show Powder Color
Translucent – sheer setting powder that leaves skin with a flawless finish (this stuff does some serious mattefying of the skin too, if you have any shine!)

Peep Show Blush Color
Bitten – neutral red for perfectly flushed cheeks (almost as if someone pinched you – in a good way!)

Zuzu Luxe “Peep Show” palette: Nude all over the lid and inner corner of eyes.  Amber on the center of the lid and added more depth/saturation with damp brush.

All in all, I highly recommend picking up one of these palettes, whether it be Peep Show, or one of their other palettes Gabriel Cosmetics will not steer you the wrong way with their high quality, beautifully blendable and pigmented eye colours, blush and powder.

I am currently LOVING this new artist, Amber Bain. She goes by The Japanese House and this 19-year-old London-based singer is blowing me out of the water with her atmospheric 80’s-esque synths and warm, dream-pop sounds. They totally wash over you and make you feel like you’re standing in the middle of an ocean as waves crash in around you. Or, at least to me it does…check it out! ;)
